Pilot is a regional marketplace for digital health technologies, connecting buyers and sellers through curated matchmaking and
competitive commercialization awards.
New York City is home to a bustling healthcare ecosystem consisting of major hospitals, academic medical centers, payors, and pharma companies. Meanwhile, NYC’s many employers and retailers invest millions in employee and consumer wellness. With health on the national agenda and New York City's tech sector growing strong, there is a significant opportunity for entrepreneurs and companies to take the complexities of healthcare into their own hands. These companies have bold visions to use technologies to reduce costs, improve patient care, and tackle health issues, large and small.
The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), in partnership with Health 2.0, launched Pilot Health Tech NYC in 2013 to leverage this momentum and position New York City as the nation's hub for healthcare technology by matching the buyers ("Hosts") and sellers ("Innovators") of healthcare technology through a regional marketplace.
The program aims to:
- Encourage the development and scaling of new technologies that address the Affordable Care Act, improve clinical care, reduce healthcare costs, and boost consumer wellness;
- Assist early-stage companies in building long-lasting relationships with NYC health and healthcare customers; and,
- Lay the groundwork for the creation and growth of new businesses in NYC.
The program helps Innovators and Hosts "match" with each other through facilitated matchmaking sessions. The program invites Innovators and Hosts to submit joint proposals for competitive awards that can defray the costs of innovative pilot projects to take place in New York City.

How it works
Pilot Health Tech NYC provides many ways for Innovators and Hosts to meet and close deals. Both Innovators and Hosts are encouraged to participate in any or all of the different elements of the program.
Find a Match
Apply to 'Find a Partner' by submitting an application by the deadline of October 8th. You must submit this application form if you want to be considered to participate in the in-person matchmaking sessions. The organizers will also facilitate virtual matchmaking through email introductions for innovators selected by our Hosts. Interested applicants do not have to go through the Pilot Health Tech NYC matchmaking process in order to jointly apply by the Friday, December 18th deadline. We encourage innovators to reach out independently to various healthcare service organizations and health stakeholders in the NYC area for potential partnerships.
Pilot Health Tech NYC facilitates matchmaking to help Innovators and Hosts connect to discuss potential pilots. The organizers will hold two in-person matchmaking sessions over the course of a year, the first on October 28, 2015. Hosts will have the opportunity to approve which Innovators they will meet with in person; Innovators will be officially notified of these meetings prior to the sessions. Pilot Health Tech NYC is not permitted to provide contact information for Host organizations to interested Innovators.
A Host and an Innovator apply as a pair to Pilot Health Tech NYC by submitting a joint pilot proposal by Friday, December 18, 2015. Applications without a 'host' or 'innovator' co-applicant will not be accepted.
Pilot Implementation Support
A panel of expert judges will review proposals and select winners. Selected proposals will receive up to $1 million in funding over three years. Winners will be announced at Pilot Day, a marquee event where winners are revealed to 300+ leaders of the tech and healthcare communities. The selected winners will then implement their pilot projects over a period of approximately 4-9 months. The Pilot Health Tech NYC team will provide pilot planning and implementation support services at Grantee Day, an exclusive day of workshops, support and guidance for winners.
The selected winners will have the opportunity to present their pilot projects at major health events and conferences. Any preliminary data and proof-of-concept results may be used for promotional purposes on the Pilot Health Tech NYC website, in press releases, newsletters, and other marketing material. This is a chance for both Innovators and Hosts to be in the spotlight, supported by the City of New York.
